Apple started the personal computer revolution in the 1980s, and has stayed a major player in technology ever since. Apple produced the iPod and watched it become a worldwide sensation. But Apple has never been able to establish itself as a player in making mobile phones- until now. The new cell phone made by Apple is now the most wanted mobile gadget in the world.
Steve Jobs’ announcement at the January 2007 MacWorld conference that an Apple cell phone, better known as an iPhone, was in the process of being developed inspired excitement and anticipation throughout the world. The idea of a device that has the ability to double as both a cell phone and an iPod was awe-inspiring. Prior to the release of Apple’s cell phone, there was a lot of press and media hype surrounding the functions, capabilities, and price of the iPhone. By the time the gadget was actually released on June 29, 2007, consumers were lining up to purchase their own Apple cell phone. The device, which is approximately the size of an iPod nano, comes in three colors thus far: black, white, and platinum. More colors and visual options could be in the gadget’s future.
Apple’s iPhone is much more than just a device that makes and receives phone calls while being able to play music. Users of iPhones can also send text messages, find sites on the Internet, watch videos and movies, store iTunes, and receive and send emails. How does such a small gadget do all of these things? Many people don’t care, so long it the iPhone works.
Ever since the widely anticipated release of the iPhone on June 29, 2007, it has been exclusively available through the Apple retail stores and through AT&T in the United States. Apple plans to release the iPhone outside the U.S. late in 2007. It was inevitable that Apple would enter the personal cell phone market. With its built-in customer loyalty and the excitement of a new product, Apple’s decision has so far proven to be a good bet.
