If you really want to rank high in the search engines, links will do it. All my attention is always on building links, building links, and building more links. If you are thinking about what you should do for SEO right now, the answer is build links. It is the biggest determining factor in how Google ranks your website. If you are not good in other areas of SEO, you can overcome these weaknesses with building links. We want links of both quality (high PR, high authority, high ranking, good branded websites) and quality (anyone near our topic!). This will help us get to the top.

The smartest web masters simply request other websites with similar material and content to link to them in a reciprocal manner. There is a group among SEOs which claims that reciprocal links have a canceling effect. The claim has neither been proven nor dismissed. If you get links from sites that are similar to yours, you get more of a benefit from the links since they are more relevant. If all the sites on the web about red widgets link to your site, then you must be the best authority for red widgets and Google will rank you #1.

If you are part of the online travel community, people will add you to their blog roll. You’ll be able to do a ton of link exchanges. The more of a community member you are the more links you will get. All you have to do is ask. In return, if I need a link, people will usually give me one too. This is why creating a flagship blog is so crucial. Bloggers are always happen to exchange links to other sites in their niche.

Create 500 word articles for article directories. These articles might get read by people, links might be clicked, and you might get some traffic. However, the real reason to write these articles is because at the bottom of each article, you can create resource box and put two links in that resource box. These articles eventually get Page Rank and are considered strong links.

Don’t like socializing and don’t like paying money? Well, start your own travel blogging community. Sign up for free sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, Wordpress, Blogger, and Today and create a network of farm sites that you can use to point links to your own main websites. Its an artificial way to build links but it works. Creating widgets is another ploy used by web masters to create links. But this requires a bit of technical expertise and I therefore not recommended.

Link building is critical to the success of a website and cannot be ignored. Search engines love links and a website is ranked by the number and quality of links. Creating l inks organically is always better than using brute force with link farms. If a website is blacklisted it may never see the light of a search page again.
