Most of the Internet marketing community is at least somewhat familiar with earning money through Google Adsense at this point. Google Adsense can be a powerful venture for earning money for some so having a better understanding of Adsense is worthwhile.

Small contextual ads published on web sites with the consent of the site owner is Google Adsense. The ads are created for selling products and/or creating brand awareness by publishers. The ads that are created are called Adwords which is a Google sponsored program.

Google Adwords combines and work together with Adsense. Every time someone clicks on a sponsored ad after they have done a search on Google or one of their partner networks, Google gets paid a predetermined price by the person who created the ad. This is what is known as ‘pay per click.’

The Adsense program allows the owner of the site where the Adwords ads appear to split the amount of money that Google has taken from the creator of the ad. It is not common knowledge exactly what the percentage split is, and it is not always the same, but let’s assume for our purposes 50%.

Google and the host of the site split the money paid by the publisher. So if a publisher paid .40 per click for his Adwords ad, then the host of the site who welcomed Adsense can expect to get .20 and Google gets to keep the other .20 every time someone clicks on the ad that appears on the host’s site. So it works like a partnership between Google and site owners.

Adsense is shown in the most relevant way possible. What does this mean? Well, probably this can be illustrated best through an example. Mary had a site, let’s say, featuring women’s clothing. If Mary decided to make money through her site with Google Adsense, then the ads that would be shown on her site would be related to clothing or women’s clothing to be more precise. In her site if shoes are dedicated to a particular page, then on that page there would be Adsense ads appearing for women’s shoes.

So how do we calculate how much revenue a click generates? This is where the Adwords side of the equation kicks in. Keywords are bid on by Adwords publishers. If a keyword is particularly sought after, then the publisher will pay more per click. The range of values for each keyword can be from a few cents to more than $50 per click.

It is simple to see how someone with a high traffic site can generate quite a bit of revenue by teaming up with Google Adsense. Many Internet marketers have put sites on the web with specific content, just to attract the high paying Adsense ads. Top Internet marketers can be earning money in excess of $10,000 a month on Adsense, and you can too!
