How to Write Your Resume Objective
Objective: To write a compelling article to help resume writers capture the attention of potential employers using a great resume objective.
When reading your resume, the job objective is the first thing people will see. It needs to be concise, positive, and it needs to capture the attention of the reader.
Also, it needs to be tailored to each position you apply for. You need to tell the reader exactly why you want to work for them. To write that perfect objective, here are some tips:
This is the place to describe the kind of job you’re seeking. Keep the objective neutral. Do not state your desire, but what you can do for the company.
So instead of writing something like, “A position where I can grow and use my skills” (etc), focus on the job itself. Say something more to the effect of, “An administrative assistance position in a fast-paced office environment.” Keep the focus in the objective on the company and position. Keep this in mind: What would the manager want in a new employee?
Only list one title for each resume! Don’t list all the different things you’d be willing to do. Specifically answer a question in the resume objective: “What job are you seeking?
You want the objective to be short, no longer than a sentence. Two sentences will serve fine as long as both are short and to the point. Remember, a long objective is not going to get any attention.
This is not the place to angle for a promotion before you’ve already gotten this job! Everyone wants opportunities to advance, and everyone knows it. Don’t state the obvious here. In your objective, don’t tell them that you’re responsible and hard-working; that ought to be redundant. You want all your experience and skills to say that for you!
So if you write your resume objective from the point of view of an employer, and if you keep all these tips in mind, you will be that much closer to the perfect job!
