In order to find a market there are some ways that you can figure out if the size is big enough. Here are some steps that will help you decide if your home based business opportunity is worth going after.

The biggest thing you need to do is make sure that your competition is improving on their revenue. In order to figure this out you need to go to Google Adwords Keyword Tool and use this as a barometer for your niche. It will give you a universal feel of what the market looks like and although it might not help as much with an offline business, it is still a good way to read your interest.

First thing I would do is check out the average big prices on Google Adwords free keyword tool. This will give you a good idea as far as how many people are searching for that keyword monthly. If you have a keyword that is over 100,000 searches then you are getting into a big niche and that is probably a good place to start.

Second check out the bids for those items on the average cost per click option on the side. This will give you a good idea as far as what companies are paying and how competitive it is. An average big will give you more of a realistic idea.

I would then go to Google search and type in my keyword and see how many sponsored links there are on the side and on the top. The more there are then the more chance I have at success because it means again that people are making money. I want to see at least ten or so listings and I will feel good about that particular market.

Also check out Paypal shops because that gives you a list of the number of products that are being bought for companies that could potentially be your competition. This is a good way to see items, but not pure volume and that can be hard to judge when someone sells a hundred products at $1 and another person sells a product in the same industry at $10,000.

It is always easier to start big because you get a general flow of traffic and you can start to narrow down on specific niches. This will then allow for you to find the type of client you want and become successful with them. If you can do this then you will make a lot of money.

So check these steps out first and see what benefits they have to giving you a good idea of your market size. Then move forward to either shrinking or enlarging your pool.
