Ongoing marketing is required to generate the traffic that any website needs to survive and thrive. There are many ways to market a website, including but not limited to reciprocal linking, advertising, PR campaigns, cross-media campaigns, search engine optimization, and other online tools. You need to make sure that people can find your website before you commit money to improving it. You can buy website traffic, but it costs up to a dollar a hit, so do that sparingly. A good place to start is to analyze high traffic sites for hints on how you can increase traffic, by seeing where their traffic comes from.

Major search engines provide most sites with a majority of their targeted website traffic, and much of the rest comes from incoming links from hundreds of other web sites. The analysis of links going into a busy website is more trouble than it is worth. Finding ways to replicate major sites’ performance is a much more effective way to increase your site’s traffic. Once you gain substantial search engine traffic, your incoming link network will grow, which will lead to improved search engine rankings. It’s a virtuous cycle that pays big dividends.

Look at the log files for keywords used to find high traffic sites, and you will find that many more keywords are used to find them than to find lower traffic sites. In fact, the domain names of high traffic sites themselves are often composed of frequently searched keywrods. It will help you increase traffic to your site to incorporate heavily searched keywords into your domain name or the names of some of your pages.

Now you are aware of the purpose of website popularity, so you can now use it to increase traffic to your site. You must create a larger number of web pages, that include a much larger variety of keywords, then optimize these for the major search engines available. Using tools designed for the purpose you can create or populate any number of pages with the keywords placed in their proper places. Once you have finished this you can do a page analysis to see how this has improved your page ranking.

There are many ways that people use to find websites, such as following links on other websites, reading magazines, hearing from friends, etc. But no matter what other methods they use, they almost always use them in addition to using the search engines. If there was one thing you could not eliminate from a site’s success driver and not ruin it, it is most usually its traffic from the search engines. No other method of marketing is so powerful, effective, and affordable.

Getting the content up is only half the task. The other half is closing the sale once the visitor arrives. Presentation and usability are key factors. If your site does not look professionally, or is difficult to navigate, or the consumer cannot find what they’re looking for within seconds, they quickly move on to the next search result.

The way to increase traffic is to continually market your website. A short-term solution to increasing traffic to your website is to buy website traffic. Most sites get a large proportion of their targeted website traffic from popular search engines. Another large portion of traffic comes from incoming links from other high traffic sites or from hundreds and thousands of smaller sites. Analyzing the incoming links network of a busy website is not worth it. If your site is poorly designed, looks unprofessional, or is difficult to navigate, a consumer will quickly leave and move on to another site.
