Not Your Mother’s MLM

Whether you’re familiar with the term ‘MLM’ or not, you are most assuredly familiar with the business model. Was your neighbor down the street an Avon lady, or did your mother sell Pampered Chef? Or are you one of the millions of women who have had a Mary Kay makeover. Then you are familiar with MLM. Today, the popularity of MLM companies has doubled what it was even ten years ago, and the catalogues for Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef and Avon abound at offices everywhere.
While I flip through the catalogues at my office, I always wonder, “How is Direct Sales working out for these people?” Is the Mary Kay Consultant one recruit away from her free car? Is the Pampered Chef Representative rolling in dough, or wishing he hadn’t gotten involved?
Before technology got involved, there was only one way to succeed at network marketing. The marketer had to be a born salesperson, outspoken, loud, continually on the lookout for new prospects. The very nature of the business demanded it. For that reason, many have either not tried multilevel marketing, or tried it but quickly gave up.
Everyone likes the idea of earning money from home, and everyone likes to think about being the boss of their own business, who can decide on their own schedule and earnings. These things are possible through network marketing, but many don’t even know it. What a shame that the good features associated with mlm companies are hidden by stigmas from the past!
Truthfully, MLM can be a great source of reliable income, but only if it is gone about in the proper fashion. Today’s network marketers are leveraging the Internet to attract lists of prospects, build teams and earn amounts of money never dreamed about in the old model of mlm. And by doing so, they are changing the marred image of the industry.
Internet marketing is a wonderful breakthrough for network marketers. Rather than pursuing prospects, they can now attract them, using informative web content, e-newsletters and on-going trainings. It is a mutually beneficial relationship, because the marketer is providing the prospect with things that he or she is already interested in or in need of. Additionally, Marketers can now reach larger and more diverse groups that never would have been possible to reach in the days before the Internet.
That’s quite a contrast to the old-fashioned mlm tatics of prospecting in your neighborhood, your church and your grocery store. Those are limited markets, destined to lead your business to a dead end.
With Internet marketing, you’re working with a global field. Your stream of prospects and your earnings are limitless. With this new form of network marketing, distributors do not have to waste their time and energy chasing down prospects that may or may not be interested. The Internet is geared toward seekers. Therefore, those who find your home business on the web will do so because they have sought it out themselves.
Attraction marketing makes the marketer a sought-after commodity. No more blind pursuit, no more endless warming up of indifferent leads. With attraction marketing, the work is almost done by the time you begin contact with leads. You can choose the most highly qualified to work with, and yes, you decide how much money you earn. After it’s begun, this state of being pursued perpetuates itself. Everyone wants to wear the most popular labels. It’s written into the Law of Attraction.
Another plus of this system is that network marketers are able to earn money while they get their businesses started. They can do this by selling advertising space on their website, or by partnering with a similar company to promote their products for a commission. While getting their MLM off the ground, they need not pay for advertising, because there are many avenues for free advertising, like YouTube and EzineArticles. The business marketing can fund itself, so that the distributors are not desperate or disheartened.
That’s a far cry from the sales reps of our mothers’ day, far from the indignity being turned down repeatedly by prospects! Network marketers today are Consultants, respected authorities in their fields, and they’re earning residual income simply by leveraging the Internet. Take a fresh look at network marketing. You’ll be glad you did.
