During the 1990’s, the talk was all about big business. Big business topics dominated the field of conversation. Topics included brand names, changes in the stock market, the growing CEO salaries, and much more. People looked to large business for control of the market place. Now in 2007, the tide has changed and small business is now the area targeted for growth.

There are many small business opportunities which allow new businesses to expand dramatically everywhere around us in the market place. These new businesses under discussion are currently arising with bold new initiative business plans and strategies. The underlying business strategies on which these businesses are based are powered by young and very dynamic leadership, by visionary entrepreneurs who want to make a difference in their own lives, and by strategists who are young and who want to make it big in life.

Large businesses are creating a tougher competition on the business space, due to their magnitude and power, becoming one of the driving forces of today’s industry. New business marketing concepts are vital for young businesses if they want to make an impact in the markets of today’s business world. By coming up with new and innovative ways to attract people and employing brand new business marketing concepts, the new businesses created a fertile ground for the development of new marketing techniques.

There are various ways in which we can characterize or differentiate a business to be small or medium or large. Generally the industry distinguishes these businesses on the basis of their revenue figures, but there are other ways also which are currently employed to gauge the category of a business like their employee strength, the capacity of production and others. Generally a small business is one which has a small number of employees working. Their office size may be small and their revenues also are considered to be lower.

Some ways through which a small business can create ripples in the market and become successful is by identifying the USP and having a core competence. Also, the business should start with a motivated and energetic team with efficient systems in place. They need to hire people very carefully, only those who fit in the model and who can contribute well to the business. Also, promotion of business is very important, there may be a lot of channels which can be used to promote and create a space in the minds of the consumer.

These businesses also need to remain committed and concentrate on growth by using their imagination to take advantage of new technology, partner with other businesses, and to offer good value, building customer trust. There is no reason why any small business can’t make it big if they follow these principles.
