Have you taken a really good look at vinyl banners lately? If you haven’t, you might be in for a major surprise and vinyl banners are the unsung hero of affordable advertising. There are four key advantages to using vinyl banners for advertising…..

1. Long lasting

The most obvious advantage of vinyl banners is how long-lasting they are. Since they are both strong and lightweight, banners work wonderfully indoors when mounted from banner rails hanging from the ceiling.

With the enhancements in eco-solvent printing, vinyl banners offer enhanced outdoor life. Many banners can now be displayed for up to three years without any significant degradation of the printed image.

2. Flexibility

Everyone has seen banners strung on fences or the sides of buildings, but did you know that banners can also be used indoors? Many of you probably have seen banners in retractable displays at trade shows, but they also can be hung from ceilings or placed in banner frames.

Big banners are not a requirement inside as a small one, around 2′ x 3′ can work very well hung from the ceiling or a 24″ x 72″ banner attached to an X-frame stand on the showroom floor.

3. Cost Effectiveness

The most cost effective form of sign advertising today is vinyl banners. The technology employed today has made the process much more cost effective including online sign design, which has eliminated design fees for the consumer.

4. Use Many Times

Most retailers have annual marketing programs that they reuse year after year. You run a campaign for one month and then move on to your next campaign, but what do you do with the marketing materials? If you use vinyl banners, there is no need to throw them away, just roll them up and save them for reuse next year.

As an example, say you run a 20% OFF sale each year. If you save and store the banner properly, then you can use it again next year and it will still look like new for many years to come.

Conclusion

Just remember, vinyl banners are a cost effective and long lasting choice for your advertising needs.

What you can put on vinyl banners has changed greatly now that you have access to digital banner printing. Gone are the days of text only phrases. If you can envision it, it can be printed on a banner.

There are five elements that go into creating a great vinyl banner.

1.Banner material

2.Material size

3.Letters

4.Contrast

5.Images

Part 1 — Substrate

Lightweight, standard and heavyweight are the three primary classes of banner material. Light banners are usually 10 ounces and are not a good choice for outdoor use. This type of banner is great for indoor use at birthday parties of holiday celebrations.

Any banner that is around 13 ounces is considered a standard weight banner. This banner is not only the standard for outdoor use, but is a terrific option for short term, multi year use banners. For example, if you have an annual winter clearance sale, this type of banner can be used for many seasons to come.

Anything 17 ounces and above is considered heavyweight material. It is really only needed in extreme weather conditions.

Part 2 — Size

Bigger is not always better in the world of banners. The size of your banner must be appropriate for the viewing distance and the place it will be installed. We have all seen very tiny banners on the side of a large building that is totally unreadable unless you are standing right next to it. The reverse can be just as bad. Imagine having a 4′x8′ banner installed on a 8′x10′ wall. A banner should stand out from its surroundings and not be used as wallpaper.

To maximize the readablity of your banner, you should have letters that are 1 inch in height for every 10 feet of viewing distance. You also need about the same amount of spacing for each line so that it is easily viewed. For example, if your banner will be 200 feet from the viewers, you must have letter that are no less than 20 inches high.

Part 3 — Letters

The character set you employ in your design is just about the most important choice you can make. You need something readable and one that stay consistent with your groups brand. Using all caps can add a striking design element, but be careful. All caps with a script font are a disaster no matter what you do. If adding all caps is important to you, be sure to look for one that is clean lined as it will work much better for you.

Part 4 — Color contrast

You need to be aware of two color contrasts. The first is the contrast between your fonts and the background of the banner and the second is the contrast of the banner and its background.

green on white white on green red on white white on red

There are many great combinations of colors that you can use. You need your text to explode off the page to grab the attention of the reader. The correct combination of colors can do just that.

A second area of concern is the contrast between the banners and its background. What is the point of having a green banner if it is displayed against a grassy field. The object is to grab your viewers attention, not to play hide n seek with them.

Part 5 — Images

Digital graphics are where modern banner design earns its money. No longer do you have to limit yourself to lines of simple text, not when you can design them with full color digital images. Banner printers have so many resources open to them for images that there is no reason not to have a visually stunning banner. ***Important*** If you plan on using your own images, be sure they are taken with enough resolution to blow up to the size you want to use.

In conclusion

It really is simple for a professional banner printing firm to design you a great looking product. Now that you know what to look for, you can more clearly articulate exactly what you want in a banner.

We have all seen the ads for cheap vinyl banners everywhere on the ‘net. Those ads where you can get a 4′x8′ banner for $60-$70. Sounds great doesn’t it, but is there a catch? Have you really looked closely at the specs of those banners…

Material

Just what is this banner made of? To use your banner outdoors and have it last longer than a few hours, it must be made of no less than 13 ounce vinyl scrim material. Don’t be fooled by shops trying to pass off paper banners. They won’t make it outside.

Weight

For some reason, this spec is the one most likely to be hidden from you in an ad. If the ad doesn’t clearly state what weight banner they are using, they are hiding something.

Never buy any banner for outdoors that is less than 13 ounces. Experience has shown that this is the minimum weight banner for long lasting outdoor use. You can probably move up to 13 ounces for an additional cost.

Hemming

Banner hemming is the process of tucking under about an inch of the banner material and securing it. This is done to add to the strength of the banner and to give a clean edge to the design. You shouldn’t have to pay for hemming. Banner tape is my preferred method of hemming since it doesn’t mar the face of the banner.

Quite a few printers use sewing as their method of hemming. The problems with sewing are that it makes the edges pucker and distort the image.

The second drawback is that sewing machines use a claw tooth foot to pull the banner into the machine and this can cause visible scuffing of the image. These shops will charge something around $0.90 per linear foot to hem. For a 4′x8′ banner (24 linear ft) that amounts to $21.60 in extra charges.

Banner finishing: Grommets

You need some way to hang the banner, don’t you? Brass grommets are cheap and at a minimum, should be placed in all four corners of the banner. A high quality printer will also place one every 2-3 feet along each side. If they bill extra for this, add another $12 or so to the price.

Summary

Using banners to promote your business or event is the most cost effective method of advertising, giving you the best bang for your advertising dollar. So be on the lookout for those cheap banners, that might be all they are.

Screen printing is a printing process that makes use of a woven mesh to hold an ink-blocking stencil. The attached stencil outlines the open areas of the mesh that transfer ink in the form of a sharp-edged image on the surface that is to be printed and this surface is called substrate. On the screen stencil, a squeegee or roller moves and pumps the ink on the open areas that are to be printed with that particular color.

There’s a way to sort through the many here-today-gone-tomorrow business-printing companies and come up with the one that truly is the best, state-of-the-art business printer.

Finding it difficult to determine which of the self-proclaimed “best” and “state-of-the-art” digital-printing companies really is the best for your business’s needs? Wondering if it is possible to find the company that is truly the next generation of business printing?

Yes. When searching for a company to fulfill your business’s requirements – whether it be offset or digital printing, posters, convention printing, high-volume copying, design, binding, or whatever your specific needs are – you can find the printing company that will meet your needs when other companies can’t.

First, look for an established company that was in business back when starting a business meant more than registering a domain name – back when word-of-mouth and reputation meant something. Now, with the Internet, starting a business is as simple as registering a domain name. By choosing established businesses, you’ll avoid the here-today-gone-tomorrow businesses.

Next, make sure the company you choose can help in all of the digital-communication areas, because digital communication takes many forms, not just printing. Make sure the company you choose offers diverse printing and communication services – like both offset and digital printing – so you can be sure they have the technology to fit your needs, instead of making your needs fit into their technology.

Customer service is another important factor when finding the printing and communications company that’s right for you. It is important that regardless of what a job entails, and how big or small it is, the customer comes first and is treated as a partner. Look for a company that offers various levels of service. While some customers need personalized full-service and custom quoting – like the customer who prefers dealing with a person, and who wants to be led through the order process step-by-step – others prefer the self-serve approach. Those customers are better served with automated sales options, with instant price quotes and online file uploading, so transactions can be done with a few clicks of the computer mouse, any time of the day.

And because being a full-service communication provider isn’t just about printing anymore, choose a company on the cutting edge of technology that continues to grow and offers additional services like variable data printing (personalized printing), video production, OCR scanning and archiving of documents for fine arts, DVD replication or wide format poster printing and banner printing and more.

And while you’re at it, why not choose a printing and communications company that’s “green.” According to the Institute of Sustainable Communications, the paper industry is the largest user of water and the fourth largest user of electricity in the world. So opt for a company that uses environmentally responsible eco-friendly inks, recycled papers and electronic document delivery whenever possible. These steps, even in a small way, can benefit the planet and energy consumption.

The leading fast-turnaround offset and digital print provider, NextGeneration Printing, Copying & Digital Communication, meets all of that criteria. It was confident enough to select the name “NextGeneration,” knowing it meant the company would always have to be on the cutting edge of the printing and communication industries. Companies in England, Germany, France, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, Russia, Ireland and Barbados, not to mention most all U.S. states have chosen NextGeneration to produce their critical and time-sensitive printed materials.

There’s a way to sort through the many here-today-gone-tomorrow business-printing companies and come up with the one that truly is the best, state-of-the-art business printer.

With so many digital-printing companies vying for your business-printing needs – and each company touting itself as “the best” and “state-of-the art” – is it possible to find the business-printing provider that really is the best? The company that is truly the next generation of business printing?

Yes. When searching for a company to fulfill your business’s requirements – whether it be offset or digital printing, posters, convention printing, high-volume copying, design, binding, or whatever your specific needs are – you can find the printing company that will meet your needs when other companies can’t.

First is finding an established company. Because the Internet has made starting a business as easy as registering a domain name, it’s difficult to tell which companies are solid, and which are flashes in the pan. Choosing a business that’s been around a while will eliminate dealing with here-today-gone-tomorrow businesses.

Next, make sure the company offers many printing and communications options, so they have the technology to fit your job, instead of making your job fit into their technology. Look for a printer that allows you to choose offset or digital printing. And because digital communication takes many forms – not just printing – make sure the company can help in all of the digital-communication areas.

Equally important is making sure that regardless of the technology used, the company’s mission is all about you, the customer, so that your job is done your way and you are treated as a partner. That includes finding a company that offers various levels of service, so there’s something for everyone. Some customers prefer to use automated sales options, with instant price quotes and online file uploading, so transactions can be done with a few clicks of the computer mouse 24/7. Other customers are more comfortable with personalized full-service and custom quoting. This is an option for customers who prefer dealing with a human being and being led through the printing-order process step-by-step.

Similarly, it’s important to find a company that understands that being a full-service communication provider isn’t just about printing anymore. Find a company that looks for ways to grow, and offers many services, like variable data printing (personalized printing), video production, OCR scanning and archiving of documents or fine arts, DVD replication or wide format poster printing and banner printing, and more.

Of course, it’s important and responsible to opt for a printing and communications company that’s “green.” The paper industry is the largest user of water and the fourth largest user of electricity in the world, according to the Institute of Sustainable Communications. So go with a company that takes steps that can benefit the planet and energy consumption – like using environmentally responsible eco-friendly inks, recycled papers and electronic document delivery whenever possible.

NextGeneration Printing, Copying & Digital Communication, the leading fast-turnaround offset and digital print provider, is one of these companies. When it selected the name NextGeneration, it knew the company would always have to be on the cutting edge of the printing and communication industries. NextGeneration has been chosen to produce critical and time-sensitive printed materials by companies in England, Germany, France, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, Russia, Ireland, Barbados, not to mention almost all U.S. states, and many more.

Summary: You’re exhibiting at a major Orlando Trade Show! Don’t squander your huge opportunity with a run-of-the-mill display. You need a booth with eye-catching graphics to grab attention. How do you do that?

Okay, you’re booked into that huge industry trade show in a few months in Orlando Now all you need is an eye-catching trade show display with captivating wording and stunning graphics to attract people’s attention and various printed matter to give out: brochures, manuals, handouts – and don’t forget business cards! But where do you start?

Don’t panic. The solution to your Orlando Trade Show worries is as easy as 1-2-3: 1 – decide on your display design and layout; 2 – figure out what kind of graphics you’ll need 3 – find a professional printer who can handle your project – including any last – minute details that crop up

Display Design & Layout – Now’s the time to figure out how you want your trade show display to look. You’ll be competing with hundreds of other exhibitors in a huge convention center – how do you get noticed? You need appropriate wording for the panels of your trade show booth.

But now isn’t the time to get verbose! Think succinct. Get your message across in as few words as possible. Thousands of people will flow past your booth. How do you get them to stop? If your message has more than about 30 words, don’t expect more than a handful of people (or a few dozen at best) to read it. Keep it brief, but big. People are more likely to read your message if the lettering is large enough to see easily from a distance.

Graphics, Graphics, Graphics – The one thing you don’t want to skimp on for this trade show is graphics. One itsy-bitsy sign tacked onto the front of your booth just won’t cut it. You need something to attract attention something to really make your display stand out! How about a fifteen-foot banner – with your company name and logo – prominently plastered across the top of your display area?

For an added attention factor, get a little fan blowing on it. People pay more attention to moving objects than non-moving ones – even if the non-moving one is larger.

You’ll also need small signage to direct people once they’re in your area maybe to get people to put their business cards into your giveaway fishbowl (and let them know what the valuable prize is). Or to invite them to sign up for your e-newsletter. And don’t forget printed collateral – handouts, brochures, etc. and lots of business cards – and all those things should be printed with your company name and logo.

Where do I find a printer? – Okay, now you’ve got all these ideas for your trade-show booth and you’re ready to start putting it together except for one thing: a printer. As much as you don’t want to hurt his feelings, you really don’t think the brother-in-law of your cousin’s best friend is up to handling the job. You need a printing professional with years of experience, someone who’ll work along your schedule, with your timeline in mind, according to your needs.

Your best bet would be to find a local printer in the Orlando area; having a local printer would eliminate those dreaded overnight-shipping costs! And if the printer could deliver your job right to the convention center, that would be a real plus. But something like that would probably cost a lot of money right? Not so. Not with NextGeneration Printing, Copying & Digital Communication. They’re two miles from the Orlando/Orange County Convention Center – and within easy reach of the area’s best meeting-equipped hotels – and their prices won’t leave you regretting your participation in this big industry trade show. Visit them online at www.OrlandoPrinter.com and take the stress out of your next Orlando-area convention.
