A lot of business owners want to incorporate a section along the lines of “latest news” into their sites to encourage repeat visitors. For two reasons, I discourage this:

1. Unless you are a genuine authority in your field, these sections tend not to be all that informative or interesting to prospective customers.

2. “Latest News” requires regular updating. Most often these updates aren’t made. How often have you seen a “Latest News” page that hasn’t been updated for a coupla years?

All I can tell you is, if you want your business to survive, you need to remember that you are not responsible for your distributor’s success. They are. Your only job is to focus on building your business and lead by example. Do not allow the doubter’s to enter your world.

One thing you need to come to terms with is, the majority of your downline is going to fail, and there is not a thing you can do to stop it. Once that downline begins to really grow, eighty percent will fail and move on. This is just the way it works, and you are not to blame for something you have no control over, law of averages.

The other twenty percent will learn your skill’s and build their business. Learn to deal with the emotions of the others, just prepare ahead to handle it. When they keep going on, politely tell them you will not work with them and their attitude, and then do not have any kind of communication with them until you think they have made a change.

When you start to see who the leaders are in your business, let them know that without competition, there would be no demand for their business. Kill that doubter’s attitude as soon as possible, then keep your eye’s and ear’s open. Tracking advertising response is as easy as asking callers where they heard about your company. As you publish more ads and test one ad against another, you’ll need to get a little more sophisticated with your tracking by implementing one or more of the following?

Use colour coded coupons in print ads, or track coupons with codes. You can also have callers mention a special offer to track the success of your ads.

If you’re advertising online, it’s even easier, you can use tracking software to compare response rates between different ads.

Not long ago, a client tracked their advertising for the first time and found that the expensive newspaper ads they were running were bringing them a negligible response. However, their very inexpensive flyers were getting a huge response. They dropped the newspaper ads and managed to get a much higher return for their marketing dollars.

Here’s how to use a guarantee in your ads in a way that gets responses:

1. Your guarantee needs to make specific promises as to results.

Don’t use boilerplate phrases like “Satisfaction Guaranteed” or even “Money-Back Guaranteed”. While these are probably better than nothing, they don’t have a fraction of the effect of a specific promise like:

“If you’re not thrilled with our product, we’ll pay you to go to the competition”

” Enjoy a minimum 50% increase in website traffic within 60 days or your money back”

As a copywriter and small business consultant, I spend a lot of time working with my clients to produce guarantees which get the reader’s attention. If this is the case, then start small ? publish one ad with this guarantee, another without. Track your response rate and the number of returns you see. If it works for you, keep offering the guarantee.

In almost every case, a good guarantee will bring in much more in sales than you’ll end up paying out in refunds. Fine tune your guarantee (wording, conditions and so on). You may see a huge difference in sales between a 30 day and 60 day guarantee.

3. Make your guarantee highly visible

Your guarantee should be a headline; you don’t want your reader to miss it.

Many business owners are nervous about making money back guarantees, fearing that they will lose money if too many people take advantage of these guarantees. However, I can tell you that in practice, the amount of additional business which a strong guarantee can bring in dwarfs the outlay you’ll see in refunds. Track the response to your ad and compare it against the returns. If the guarantee is working for your business, continue offering it.

So, that said, here is what I suggest you do first. Get out a piece of paper and write down your five year, one year, six month, 3 month and one month goals. Then start with your one month goal and determine what it’s going to take every day for you to reach that goal. Once you’ve written these steps, stick to them, never quit and watch your business grow.

Many small business ads look like a shopping list, this is the biggest mistake to avoid.

I’m sure you’ve seen these ads; company name at the top rather than a compelling headline. Dry copy which doesn’t manage to get your interest. There is nothing to induce you to do business with this company, even remember it. No call to action is given, just the company address and phone number.
We all know these ads don’t work. They just don’t get people’s attention. Readers want to know one thing: what’s in it for me?

Here’s a far more effective layout which is almost universally applicable:

You need a headline to lead in, it doesn’t have to be all that clever, just clearly state the biggest benefit of your product or service to the consumer.

Coupon or contact number at bottom right (called the “anchor point” of the ad).

Your company name and address should go in the bottom left corner. Your reader will look for it once you have made your case.

Put headlines under photos or illustrations, so the reader’s eye goes from photo to headline to copy in that logical order. (Illustration layouts also depend on the size and concept of the ad)

It’s a good idea to outline the benefits of your product or service with bullet points. Long copy is great, but it’s a lot harder to write.

How are your ads? Do they read like a shopping list, or a compelling story ending with a call to action? If the former, I know you’ll get great results from changing your formats.

Failing to Test and Track Ad Response

You should always test and track your ads. Even a slight change can generate many more sales for the same product or service. Testing and tracking can help you to cut out what isn’t working and keep what performs well.

How to Track Advertising Response

It’s very simple to track your ads. For instance, you can ask callers how they found out about your business. If you have a lot of different ads out there, you can track things with more complex methods such as the following:

Use colour coded coupons in print ads, or track coupons with codes. You can also have callers mention a special offer to track the success of your ads.

Online it’s even easier, there are lots of great tracking software programs that will allow you to compare one page against another or one traffic source against another.

One of my clients a while back tracked their advertising response rates and found that their expensive print ad campaign was bringing in almost no responses, while a nearly free flyering campaign was generating a lot of business. They were able to drop the print ads and save a lot of money while having a more effective advertising and marketing campaign.

The email service that you use is your choice. However, I would recommend Google’s Gmail. The service is free and is available to everyone.

The easiest way to setup your email address is to assign the day of the week the ads were created for each different account. This helps to see which days are associated with each separate account.

An example, your first email address you make is for Sunday001 and Monday002: Sundayad001@gmail.com, mondayad002@gmail.com, until you are finish.

Gmail is easy to setup. It takes about a minute for registration of each email account. So set up this easy registration now.

Just go to Google.com and look for the “Gmail” link at the top left of the screen and click it, then look for the “Sign up for Gmail” link on the bottom right and click. Now follow the directions to complete the sign-up process. Easy enough, right?and complete the instructions.

You should decide when registering for each account if you want emails forwarded to a separate email address you own now or would you prefer to set up an inbox for each account. This option is available at the time you set up the account.

If I could only use ONE credibility-boosting strategy, Case Studies / Testimonials would have to be it.

Positive RESULTS are what you achieve to give to the customers and case studies and testimonials are mostly comprised of details about results. They are certainly concrete and specific as conveyed by customers. Keep in mind that results are what customers are after and not the product itself.

It goes without saying that your testimonials need to be genuine. Some sites feature testimonials that sound, well, fake. They use too many superlatives and read like they’ve been ripped from the pages of a Hollywood B-movie script.

To get a simple but sincere testimonial, provide your customers with a few guiding questions and let them respond in their own words. This way the site will have authentic and true testimonials.

You should also remember that Testimonials and Case Studies have become a standard feature on many websites. They can be easily ignored by website visitors UNLESS you go to the trouble of “exponentialising” them.

You can “Highlight” a Testimonial or Case Study by:

* Designing a creative headline

* Displaying it in a Johnson Box

* Emphasise important words and results with vivid graphics.

* Adding a photo, audio stream or video stream from the testimonial provider

* Put on view the particular famous trademarks and logos of clients.

* Exhibiting graphs, scanned documents, screenshots or visual images of results.

Strategy #3: Association Indicators, Qualification, and Membership Certifications

If your business is associated or affiliated with other professional groups, display the logo on your website. The symbol of membership will give clients the impression that your business is an organised one.

ISO 9001 is a well-known certification; other certifications and qualifications may sound unknown. You must inform and explain the details to the visitors and customers about these. The following are some suggestions to do that:

For the carpet installation service in Sydney, for example, it could read something to the effect of, “Surry Hills, Sidney Carpet Installation. Installing Carpet at a Reasonable Price.”

3. Pay Attention to Headings. Headings are very important for search engines because they seem to help them find page content is important, too. Make sure that your subheadings and headings are keyword rich for a good start, for example, using a heading such as “Carpet Installation Services in Sydney.”

4. Make Sure You’re Page Content Is Suitable. At least one paragraph of each textual page on your website should be rich in keywords. You can also repeat the keywords you use in your headings in your content. Using a mix of related key phrases is also good. For example, saying, “Carpet Cleaning, Cleaning Carpets, Clean Your Carpets,” is more suitable than using the same phrases over and over again.
