I have often asked myself why it is that so many direct network marketers are still locked into the old ways of doing business and not taking advantage of all that the internet offers to build multiple streams of income. It’s probably because that’s how they learned the business and they have never taken the time to consider any options.

Today many things have changed in the direct network marketing business. Anyone who has been in the business for awhile knows how much it has changed. It’s harder to find good qualified leads. There is more competition for leads. New members don’t stick with one opportunity for very long before they are off trying the next big opportunity that comes along. So, you have to find more new prospects to replace the turnover in addition to trying to grow your downline.

The other day, my mom shocked me. She asked me what a niche market was, and since she is not an online marketer ( doesn’t turn the computer on regularly enough to use email ), this question appeared quite out of the blue. Perhaps I should not have been surprised because in the area of marketing but particularly online marketing, this term is showing up more and more frequently. In truth, one of those late night, “Be the next internet Millionaire” scams that airs at 4 am for those with insomnia, also trumpets this term.

So, for the newbies amongst us, what is niche marketing? Can we eat it, buy it, use it up or make the ecology green with it?

So how would we define it ? * It’s the current fad, but its not ( This one has really long legs ) * It’s not going to be a good Xmas present – so don’t look for it * It’s not going to make anything bigger longer or … ( u get the msg ) * It’s not likely to be a new job opening anywhere soon

So Let’s Look at An Example

I am going to make up a definition on the fly here. Niche marketing is marketing that is directed very specifically at a very narrow vertical market segment. So, let’s try this one.

Marketing to those that buy – Basketball shoes. Niche or not? Not – Michael Jordan running shoes. Niche or not. Not (What did that surprise you?) – Michael Jordan High-Top running shoes. Niche or not? Feeling the sun yet ? – Michael Jordan HighTops signed by the great one himself . Niche or no Niche? Jackpot !

So, the warmth of the sun is shining on our face, its going to be a great day. We can now see the light, yaddy yaddy, yaw. So where do we go from here? We have accurately identified a niche right? And isn’t that what everyone is talking about? Do we stock up now or wait for Christmas?

If you want to lose your shirt go ahead! That was a joke, don’t do it. Please don’t think that I slipped and just told you about my huge money maker and have now decided to take it back. Further from the truth we could not be. We have an unproven premise here.

Don’t mistake an example of what the end product might look like with the actual process used to find that niche market. That was NOT the process, in fact, its not even close to the process. While the process can be done manually, you really need a tool since you want to examine and reject tens and tens of potential niches before settling on one to promote. And by the way, even if one of the niche tools highlighted this particular example and a week later 4 friends asked me for the same product I would still have some hesitations…

So, did I just give you a really bad Niche Market example?

It wasn’t necessarily a poor example, but the truth is – far more research is required. To start off with, are those actually the keywords that people use to search for this product? In the past, only search engine statistics could tell us that. Then there were great search engine tools that could help further filter that information. But to help determine whether its a great Niche product, even search engine tools like KeyWordwatcher can only go so far.

Competitive websites and the number of potential clients would have been enough data to help in quantifying this as a niche product — in the past. But not now. The competition has gone considerably further than that in their analysis and so must you – even as a newbie.

Save yourself some time. Don’t try to manually analyze whether or not you think you may have found a niche market product. If you have been in internet marketing or online marketing for some time, its likely that you have used Google’s excellent search engine tools hidden in the adwords product. It’s fairly easy for most of us to agree, that the bulk of our decisions are based upon the summation of our previous experience, combined with some sort of empirical observation. “That looks hot, I once was burned, don’t touch it.” A rather simplistically calculated decision to a situation, correct? The argument follows: (and I’m sure many of you will most likely remember this from high school)a priori knowledge is that which we have separate of our own experience, a posteriori knowledge is dependent on experience or physical evidence. Many of us are self-evaluating by nature anyway, use that time to spark the habitual changes that you seek. Learning something new can seem daunting, but the reality is when you engage yourself mentally you usually discover something you already know.

Rain- seems like that’s what we got for most summer! At what point did New York and Seattle trade places and I had no idea?

Since rain was the topic of the day this past June/July it makes me recall a seminar on Branding I was privy to given by Ben Mack which I believe had the title: “How to Be a Rainmaker” so something like that.

For those of you not acquainted Dr. Ben Mack, he is one of the principal powers that be on Branding today in the USA. He has held positions at over 14 diverse Ad agencies over his memorable professional undertakings and was a Vice President for Brand strategy for a major corporation.

In essence what that meant was he was a lead strategist in charge of a ” Billion dollar budget (yes, I said ” BILLION or 500 Million dollar account!). Do you think he knows what he is talking about? I certainly do, and not only has he performed magic for the companies he worked for, he is also a Professional Magician who at age 19 was the youngest recepient of the Award of Merit given by the Academy of Magical Arts.

Do you know what a Rainmaker is? Do you want to become one? A rainmaker aside from the apparent implication of a indian shaman who using magic makes it rain, is a person with the uncanny ability to be a magnet for clients, exploit (in a good way) political associations, and bottom line, make the business a great deal of money. Rain- Thats been the prevailing climate here on the East Coast for what feels like aforever! Since when did Seattle and New York have a swap that I didn’t know of ?

As rain was the lead point of discussion for most of us Northeasterners the beginning of the Summer, it brings to mind a lesson on Branding I learned from Dr. Benjamin Mack which co-incidentally he entitled How to Be a Rainmaker.

Over the next bunch of articles or so I will make an effort to highlight some of the crucial points of this lecture which was comprised of three primary sections: 1) Making lightning Strike, 2) Keeping the Lightning Striking and 3) Bottling your lightning.

Those not acquainted who Ben Mack is should know that he ranks is one of the big Kahunason Branding today in the country bar none! Mr. Mack (or should I say Dr. Mack) has worked at some of the most recognized advertizing agencies during his memorable career. How does Vice President for Brand Strategy at one of the companies grab you?

In a nut shell what that means is he was in charge of a budget of ” billion dollars (now thats massive amounts money)! To me that signals someone who is an authority on Branding, don’t you agree? In addition to being a professional magician, Ben Mack has performed magic for many companies over the years, and at age 19 was the beneficiary of the esteemed (if your into magic) Award of Merit given by the AMA.

A Brand (your brand, a Brand called YOU) is built through the use of Legends or communication that is repeated time and time again. These narratives can and should be allowed to say the opposite of each other and absolutely will grow with age. So, if you’re going to pick a story that you construct for your business to help grow your business (after all you are reading articles like this to help you become more profitable in your business arent you?) why not pick the type that grows stronger with age and you will indeed become “Legendary”.

There is one big factor that is left out of the equation. Almost everyone of these guys has gotten to the top of this industry and stayed there due to the “Mindset” that they have developed from the ‘get go’. Go buy a book. Buy lots of books. Or get into a great program. Get your head in the right space it needs to be in to succeed and push forward. There is no other more important factor. I was paralyized with fear until I picked up my first few books and started immersing myself in getting my thoughts straight.

Being online is the only place to go these days to find a business with low overheads and an above-average rate of return. We looked for a company that would teach us with a simple online marketing education system. It wasn’t easy. We wanted to learn to grow our business ourselves, leverage for retirement and to be in total control, and work it from home. I wanted to do that so badly that I was prepared to find a way to learn what I needed to know so as to succeed on the internet.

I knew I needed a great marketing education platform so I set out to find the best one. A few years ago I heard a story of a man who died at the age of fifty-three and at his funeral there were over 300 people that gathered in memorial. This man had been a quadriplegic in a wheelchair with only one arm and no hands after being in a car accident at the age of twenty.

After the car accident this man decided that wealth to him meant friendships. He did everything in his power to have and to keep as many good friends as possible. He spent day in and day out learning the likes and dislikes of his friends and did anything to keep his friendships striving.

I too, decided to model my philosophy after this man, by defining my wealth and happiness in the same way he did. In attaching myself to Wealth Masters International, I found a vehicle with which to help others find success and achieve their dreams in helping them build home based businesses.
