The federal government is REQUIRED to award 5% of its projects to woman business enterprises (WBEs). In order to comply with these mandates, the federal government sets-aside special contracts that are only awarded to a WBE. And of course, there is nothing stopping you from also bidding on contracts that are open-bidding for everyone. But you should definitely take advantage of the special advantages that you can get as a WBE.

How can you take advantage of these special advantages available to you? There is actually not a specific application to obtain a federal WBE certification as a WBE. You simply self-certify that you are a WBE.

So if you are a WBE, you can basically start bidding on federal government projects immediately after you perform the normal process to register as a federal government contractor. The federal government uses three primary methods for finding contractors to do its work, which we will look at in more detail herein.

FedBizOpps for Projects Over $25,000

Any projects that are expected to exceed $25,000 are posted on FedBizOpps (fbo.gov). All 26 federal agencies feed their projects over $25,000 into this portal so that people who want to bid on those projects can find them.

FedBizOpps allows you to search by agency, key word, and numerous other advanced criteria so you can find the types of opportunities that interest you. On FedBizOpps, you will also find special set-aside fields so you can see those opportunities that are set-aside just for women. But as noted previously, you can also submit bids for other projects, even those that are not set aside specifically for WBEs. But you will definitely want to take a look at the special opportunities just for WBEs too.

With the FedBizOpps portal, you can do these searches for no charge and without even having to register. Also, you can also sign up for a free account if you want to receive email alerts of projects that meet your specified criteria. Anyone who is serious about doing business with the federal government should definnitely sign up for these email alerts. With these alerts, you basically set up the search criteria for the types of projects you are interested in, and you receive email alerts of new opportunities that are posted that meet your criteria. This is a far more efficient than going to FBO.gov on a repeated basis to find possible projects to bid on!

Projects Less Than $25,000 ” Through Fed, or Directly With Contract Officers

We described above that those opportunities that exceed $25,000 must be posted on FedBizOpps. Well, what about those projects that are under $25,000? Well, the contracting officers in the various federal government agencies can make buying decisions under $25,000 without having to go through the more detailed bidding process. So you can actually look at the upcoming forecast that is published by each federal government agency, and any time you see one coming up that is under $25,000 that you are interested in, you should contact that government buyer to express your interest.

Additionally, you may see projects under $25,000 show up on the FedBid reverse auction that the federal government uses for lots of purchases. FedBid allows the government to list details about the specific product or service they are looking for. Business can then submit bids in an eBay style format and see if they are the winner. Whenever a project shows up on FedBid that is over $25,000, FedBizOpps will cross-reference the FedBid auction posting. Now that you know these last two methods of doing business with the federal government, you actually know more than probably 60+% of other federal government vendors. Reading the upcoming forecast to find opportunities you can negotiate directly with government buyers, and using the FedBid reverse auction are both excellent strategies for winning business from the federal government.

Again, for better results, we have to begin somewhere. Giving away things to others is definitely far simpler than attempting to get it first!

What is the outcome, when we try to get it first?

If we hope to have something, surely we would try to acquire it. And once we get it, we would cling on to it. This is surely natural – it makes sense rationally.

But the actual upshot of ’striving to get’ is often not profusion and actual long-term recompense.

For example, hoping to see others happy is not at all about deriving joy from them, or manipulating them to become happy. It is about how much happiness we can give them and thereby share with them. Full stop.

So how do we start to get what we desire?

By starting from the other end of the circle- by giving generously!

When we give first before we actually fully have what we really want – what we dream of – we send a very powerful message to ourselves that says, “there is enough, and more will come”. It allows us to experience the joy today – the joy of giving.

All we need to do is give out the love in ample measures to others. It just returns to us. Giving love is the only way to be fully loved. When we acknowledge the greatness of others’ achievements, and their great qualities, again, that recognition comes back to us. They recognize us, because we are ready to recognize them.

In much the same manner, if we want to have enough of everything in our lives physically, financially, and emotionally, we must share these things in ample measure with others.

Some are ready to give more physical things like time. Others opt to give what they can spare financially, like money. Those who give more (time, money, compassion, love, thoughts) have these things in abundance because it is the surplus. And surplus is the natural law of life.

Just keep in mind the rule of the game

One rule: never expect a return when we give.

When we have the anticipation that giving involves ‘getting’ something back, we become unhappy when we do not see the thing returning to us fast. We may even feel unhappy towards the one who gets the gift. And having a negative feeling for someone is definitely not a right state of affairs! So we can know the real pleasure of giving when we are doing it with the awareness that we are actually doing it for ourselves – we are doing it for our own pleasure!

Losing to win, giving to receive

In the beginning it may appear that we are the losers. Still, at some level we realize that receiving things without giving anything is not a realistic life pattern. We have always been aware of it. That is the reason why giving away a part of their income has been a pattern with many well known people. And they have not done it openly, so it was not done to make themselves popular. It was just the way they wanted it to be.

Look around yourself. ‘Lesser’ creatures do it naturally. The bumblebees take the honey of the flowers and in return pollinate the flowers, thereby making them bloom. They do it in accordance with the laws of nature. They do not do it as a part of any law of justice. That is why they create permanence, without even making an attempt to do so.

Giving to another is just a role of who we are, it is the same as having; nothing more, nothing less. No confusion, no strings attached, just letting go easily.

The gist of getting more can be summarised into two steps: Give first, and do not hope to get anything in return.

When we let go and give open-handedly, what we require would come to us. On its own.

WBE is the acronym for “Woman Business Enterprise”. As a WBE, there are one or more levels of certification that will provide you with special advantages for increasing your sales.

WBE certification is a certification that is obtained from a certifying agency to confirm that a business is 51% owned, controlled, and operated by one or more women. There are different types and levels of certification, and this article will explain the different levels. There are some WBE’s that would not really benefit from having a WBE certification. If you don’t sell a product or service that the government or large corporations buy, then it would be a waste of effort to obtain a WBE certification.

But if you would like to sell your products or services to these cash rich government and corporate clients, then you should definitely consider obtaining a WBE certification. One reason a WBE certification can be valuable is because government agencies and many corporations MUST award a certain percentage of business each and every year to WBE enterprises. Your WBE certification allows you to prove that you meet the requirement of being a woman-owned business.

Here are the four different levels of WBE certifications: 1. Certification at the Local Level 2. Certification at the State Level 3. Certification at the Federal Level 4. Certification at the National Level

Let’s look at each of these 4 levels of certification in more detail.

Certifying Locally

A local certification is obtained from a local government agency. Local WBE certifications can be beneficial if you want to do business with a particular local government agency and want to increase your chances of getting them as a client.

Certifying with the state

Most states have a state MBE/WBE office where you will obtain your state certification. That state certification is necessary if you want to sell to one or more state government agencies with increased likelihood of getting the work. To obtain a state WBE certification, you contact the MBE/WBE certification office in the state in which you want to be certified. You can then fill out whatever paperwork they require.

Federal WBE Certification

There is actually no formal certification process to obtain a federal certification. Federal WBE certifications are “self-certifying”. When selling to the U.S. federal government, then you “self-certify” that you are a WBE. That basically means that you just state that you are 51% owned, controlled, and operated by a woman. Later, after awarded a project with the federal government, they may ask you to prove that WBE status, but in most cases, they do not. However, dont say you are a WBE if you are not.

Motivation is so personal as to hardly make sense. There is, however a science too understanding that different things motivate different people. Motivation means motive (a reason to ) and action (do something). Not really that complicated but might help understand what makes some of us think differently

Nobody is exactly the same as anybody else. There are, however four different things that you should learn about- they all motivate us by a greater or lesser extent. The four main motivators are: Participation, recognition, personal growth and achievement. Personal growth is a big motivator. People who are motivated by this reason are generally self starters who use every opportunity to gain skills and strengths in areas in which they want to grow. They will often talk about what they learned from something, how they benefited, how they can use experiences gained in future tasks, etc.

Recognition is a very powerful motivator. If there is any one of the four main motivating factors that is universal to all, then it is recognition. If this were not the case, why do people wear badges, win trophies, hold prize givings, ceremonies, awards and more. Recognize a child in public and see them grow- recognize their achievements in front of people they acre about (their friends) and they will seem to grow before your very eyes. A powerful motivator that must never be manipulated

The simple act of getting things done, i.e. achieving things is a key motivator for a significant proportion of people. No need for a song and dance for these people, they quietly get on with things and before you know it, they have achieved their goals. Even then, the inner satisfaction is far more important than the fanfare of recognition. Recognize them anyway- recognition never hurts- it can only help if it is genuine and heart felt

Just being part of the team is enough for many people. We all understand that not everyone is a star who scores all of the points- we need team players and we need them a lot. Watch children when they get left out of something- you will see first hand the effects of de-motivation. Why then do we seem to forget the power of involvement when we get older. We all like to be part of a team, ignore this and watch your team suffer- even at home

Some would give more physically by giving their time. Some would give more financially by giving money away. The people who give more (time, money, kindness, love, ideas) have more of these things because that’s the balance. And balance is the natural law of life.

Remind oneself of the rules of the game.

One rule: never expect a return when we give.

Doing business online? If you’re in online commerce you know that you need to build a list. It’s a critical part of marketing your business. If people have found you and signed up for your free offer you know they are at least somewhat interested in what you have to offer. These are the prospects you need to keep yourself in front of to sell your products.

There is an interesting tactic to use to help you triple or quadruple your list subscribers quickly. It’s known as “co-registration.” It’s really powerful when used right. It is a method that requires you contact a few other similar vendors. For instance, if you sell women-oriented hair products, you might contact supplement, beauty and fashion vendors.

Naturally you’d want to work with very similar product vendors to keep your list streamlined. Start with maybe 5 or 8 at the most. Keep it small and grow from there. When you contact these co-partners, you need to be clear about what’s in it for them. Let them know the opportunities this ideas presents. Be clear about what they are expected to do to participate. Sucked in again! One day I was channel surfing and I happened by while Oscar Blandi was on HSN. Any Allure magazine reader has become familiar with these “stylist to the stars” and their products so I was curious. I watched longer than I should have and of course, I was sold. When we are ready to give away first before we have even got what we hope for – what we are dreaming of – we are sending a strong message to ourselves which says, ‘there is enough, and more will come.’ It lets us feel the joy today – the joy of sharing.

All we need to do is give out the love in ample measures to others. It just returns to us. Giving love is the only way to be fully loved. When we acknowledge the greatness of others’ achievements, and their great qualities, again, that recognition comes back to us. They recognize us, because we are ready to recognize them.

In the same manner, if we want to have plenty in our life materially, financially, and mentally, we have to share in full measure with others, what we want.

Some would give more physically by giving their time. Some would give more financially by giving money away. The people who give more (time, money, kindness, love, ideas) have more of these things because that’s the balance. And balance is the natural law of life.

Just keep in mind the rule of the game

One rule: never expect a return when we give.

When we have the conviction that giving has got as its inherent part, ‘getting’ something back, we become upset when do not see the return immediately. We may even feel a slight dissatisfaction towards the receiver of our gift. And surely, nurturing a bad feeling for someone is not a proper thing to do! So we can experience the real happiness of giving when we are doing something with the knowledge that we are doing it only for ourselves – we are doing it for our own happiness!

Losing to win, giving to receive

In the beginning it may appear that we are the losers. Still, at some level we realize that receiving things without giving anything is not a realistic life pattern. We have always been aware of it.
