The Xbox is one of the most familiar console video gaming devices on the market. Computers and the internet have made online gaming more attractive than console games to many game fans, so something was needed to boost the console concept. It was finally marketed late in 2001.

The console has many options for AV connections and also contains a basic computer chip. The console is compatible with RF connectors, standard AV cable, TOSLINK audio, High Definition devies, S-Video, and SCART devices. The Xbox can connect to the internet wirelessly, can interface with a PC, or can connect to Ethernet cable, a modem, or a router. The Xbox can be used as a mixer, as a player, or as a karaoke machine. With accessories, it can also be used to play DVDs.

Displaying innovations far removed from those of earlier generations of game consoles, the XBox 360 controllers are packed with a diverse variety of useful options and functions for the console. The new Xbox 360 controller displays more similarities with the control panel of a small plane than with that of similar game consoles. The controller comes in alternates models with such diverse features as a directional touch pad, six action buttons and slots for accessories. The controller even has a dock for memory card access, so that games can be saved for later play.

Some games immobilize the memory card option to stave off cheating, but devout Xbox fanatics can usually create a way to hack around many of these protections. A huge benefit of this system is the ability to join in an online multiplayer gaming service. That means that if you have an Xbox, you can play the game with anyone in the world with the same console, regardless of their location. Instead of trying to compete with Internet gamers, Xbox devised a way to get in on the action.

The price points for the game have been controversial. Europeans claim to have been charged twice as much as Americans, and newer versions have also been released with inflated prices. Other complaints, similar to those against other game consoles, have focused on violence and other objectionable content within the individual games released.

An Xbox is a wonderful purchase that provides lots of entertainment options for parents and kids alike. The console costs much less now, and its games can be found used or traded at good discounts. This makes the Xbox a great holiday or birthday gift and still popular on children’s wish lists. Many families buy more than one!
